Our Home

Serving the city of Greensburg and all of Decatur County, Indiana, we are a local government funded facility that consists of Animal Control and the Animal Shelter. Our focus is domestic animal rescue and adoptions.

In spite of space limitations, our euthanasia percentage is less than half the national average due largely to our wonderful volunteers. We work very hard to provide a loving and caring environment for our animals while they are with us.

We are open to the public during the above hours. Adoptions are not limited to city or county residents. Come visit us and meet your future pet!

We gratefully accept donations of money and materials for animal care and enrichment. CLICK here to see our Wish List of items we need.

  1. Looking for young dog med to large size. I do not want a dog that has any pit bull in him. Think I would rather have a female. Lab or German Shepherd type dog.

    • Do you reside within Decatur County? If yes, we may offer several options. Advertise her on Facebook, and on the local radio. Send a picture and details to us and we will post in-house. If you would like to surrender her to the shelter we suggest that for the time being you keep her and we will post on our Pet finder page and on the site for rescues. Again, we need a couple of pics (portrait and profile) and specific details ; Is she good with children, other dogs, cats? Is she house trained? Will she stay inside a fence? Is she a barker? Does she react to cars, bicycles, joggers, etc.? If you are not able to keep her any longer you may bring her here just be aware that we are a bit full up at the present time and once in-house we are never able to guarantee placement (although the fact that she is already fixed and utd on shots is a BIG plus).

  7. I have a black/tan male dog that showed up on East 46 today, about a mile from the Junction of 3 and 46. He has a collar but no tags. He’s very friendly and is good with children. He knows sit and lay commands. Somebody has to be missing him.

  13. Good Afternoon, My name is Jenn Hopkins. I’m one of the Admins for Indy Lost Pet Alerts. I’m writing you for help regarding a tragic car accident that sent a scared dog from the scene.

URGENT -LOST DOG – JEEP’s Owner, Julie Best, was traveling home to Georgia from Michigan. Julie thinks she may have blacked out & ended up in the ditch. While the EMTS were tending to her and getting her in the ambulance her dog, JEEP, ran off. Owner has been released from the hospital (staying at a motel) and is waiting there until her brother (from MI) and her husband (from GA) can get to Greensburg to help find JEEP. However, during the trip from GA on Monday, Her husband was involved in an accident, his car is now totaled, but he is ok. Julie’s Husbands trip to GREENSBURG has been delayed. Julie’s brother is now in town & helping search for JEEP. She will take some of her clothes to the area to leave near the scene of the car accident (I74 & St Rd 3), hopefully JEEP will stay in the area. JEEP is normally a very friendly dog, but after the accident my be skittish. We are asking that you share JEEP’s post:

  15. We have three barn cats. Two are girls and one is a boy. They are around four months old. How old do they need to be to be spayed and neutered? If mine are old enough, what do I need to do to sign them up for the clinic?

  16. I have been hearing about 2 wolves being kept in small pens, underfed and no water, at Stapp’s Farm on SR 46. Several hunters have come across them in the woods and say they are starving with no water in a very small pen. Would you please check on them?
